From Piazza Pisanelli we take the road to the seafront which, branching off, takes us to the two marinas of Tricase: Marina Serra and Tricase Porto. Marina Serra di Tricase is characterized by the presence of cliffs, creeks, maquis and crystal sea. Cave Matrona, which can be reached only by sea, and Cave of Monaci, are really beautiful. Sea erosion created a lovely creek, a real natural pool, while the suggestive marina was obtained from the rocks by man. We can also admire the lovely sanctuary vowed to Madonna dell’Assunta, dating back to the XVIth century, with a view on the Channel of Otranto. Tricase Porto has very ancient origins. It was long used for fishing and for the transport and trade of goods (especially leathers destined to tannage) and now it keeps the ancient charm of a tourist harbour, a place where seafarers through the Channel of Otranto can stop. Among the ancient and the new harbour we find the turret, where the association “Magna Grecia Mare”, working for the rediscovery and promotion of the seafaring culture, is based. This association has renovated and reused an old caique and some old boats, which are now used as a boat-school of lateen sailing. On these boats courses of ancient sailing and seafaring techniques regularly take place. Tricase Porto is surrounded by sumptuous aristocratic villas and the ancient fishermen’s hamlet climbing on a steep slope.
Depressa district has a very small historical centre, with a lovely feudal castle of the XVIth century now belonging to Baron Winspeare. The most ancient part of the castle was used simply as farm (masseria). On the floor below a small museum tells the story of the Family and shows the ancient rural traditions of Salento. Winspeare name is famous for the wine-grower “Castel di Salve”. A renowned film director worldwide, Edoardo Winspeare, from Salento, revived the image of Salento and Puglia in the world thanks to the multiple prize-winning films “Pizzicata”, “Sangue Vivo”, “Il Miracolo” and “Galantuomini”.
The poet Girolamo Comi lived for a long time in Lucugnano. Today Palazzo Comi is the Provincial Library, keeping the poet’s writings. The small historical centre is split by the road leading to Santa Maria di Leuca, along which we can see the famous workshops of terracotta artisans
