Agriturismo Masseria Le Stanzie in Supersano

The Agriturismo (farmhouse) Masseria Le Stanzie is one of the most ancient masserie in Apulia, established in the XVI century in a zone already inhabited.

The name originates from “Statio”, a roman station located in the area along the very ancient street of the oil that once connected Otranto with Gallipoli.

Today this Apulian Masseria, renovated and transformed in a fantastic agritourism in Salento, still represents a perfect place where to stop and be treated in an intimate and familiar ambient.

You may reach the Masseria going through a charming dirt road along kilometres in the countryside full of ancient olive trees, which seem to take you back in the past.

All rooms of this charming farmhouse in Salento have a particular warm atmosphere: star shaped vaulted ceilings, fireplaces, “pennule” of tomatoes or peppers pending from the ceilings, tomato sauces and hand craft goods made in Salento render the place particularly wellcoming and pleasant.

The cuisine of the Masseria is typical of Apulia; a lot of homemade starters, “orecchiette” with sauce and aubergines, horse meat, mixed grills of meat, desserts and rigorously homemade digestives. Big spaces are alternated to small room and you may decide to eat on long tables together with your friends or in an intimate atmosphere with your partner, remembering sometimes to make fire in the fireplace.

In summer Masseria le Stanzie offers the possibility to eat in the garden, below pergolas of grapes nearby ancient granaries.

At the end of your meal you should not leave this charming apulian agriturismo (apulian farmhouse) without having seen the underground oil mill of the Masseria made during the Basilian period, witnessing the relationship between the red land of Apulia and olive trees. The oil mill is made of a room covered with barrel vault where in the middle there is a millstone with a tank excavated in the land to collect the oil.

Pavement is made of land and rocks. In the garden of agritourism le Stanzie there is another ancient oil mill, at present under renovation. Around the Masseria graves of the Middle Age excavated in the rocks, crypts and grain tanks were found.

The Masseria Le Stanzie is furthermore one of the so called educational masserie of Apulia, which take care of protecting and spreading the local traditions of Salento. Training courses are organized on: cycles of biological cultures as cereals, grapes, olives, fruit and vegetables; cycle of transformation of the grain into pasta and bread; cycle of transformation from milk to cheese; path of the vegetables garden; farming pigs and cows of Apulia races; visits to the hypogean and semi-hypogean oil mills; natural path along the so called “way of Peregrines”, being the Masseria Le Stanzie an ancient roman station located in the centre of an important crossroad connecting Otranto and Gallipoli.

Agriturismo Gli Ulivi in Tricase

The base philosophy of the farmhouse agriturismo Gli Ulivi are the method of production to obtain products eco-compatible as well as keeping and increasing the fertility of the ground, maintaining the rural panorama of Salento. The agritourism is located in a small rural district named “Contrada Rurale Palane Marina Serra” in the extreme bottom of Apulia named “Capo di Santa Maria di Leuca”. The district is inserted in a S.I.C. area, in the natural park “Otranto – Santa Maria di Leuca – Bosco di Tricase”. The district is characterized with great extensions of ancient olive trees and immense “vallonea” oaks which mirror in the deep blue waters of Marina Serra di Tricase. In this place there is a meeting between the farmer’s and fisherman’s cultures. The district is a portion of Salento managed by a community of young and old farmers, with strong rural values. On the basis of marrying said principles, the farmhouse agriturismo Gli Ulivi produces and transforms its products by following techniques and methods of the  biological agriculture in order to produce safekeeping and respecting the environment, the rural panorama, the animal as well as who works therein. Biological products of the agritourism are products in oil and pickles, preserves and olive oil.

These excellent Apulian products may be directly bought in the agriturismo or in the most estimated groceries of Salento.

Ancient popular receipts of the traditional Salento’s cuisine are in the menu of the farmhouse agriturismo Gli Ulivi, including: legumes boiled in the “pignata”, herbs and vegetables which spontaneously grow on the dry land of Salento, home made fresh pasta, “tajeddha” and “ciceri e tria” .

This nice agriturismo of Apulia is also an educational Masseria, where you can have courses of eating education and Apulian land education as well.

When you arrive in the agritourism, you are welcomed by funny donkeys freely having a walk around the agritourism. The farm is completed by the sheep farming which gives Giulio, the owner of the farmhouse, the milk to make very good cheeses and genuine ricotta, as well as pigs, gooses, turkeys and chickens living in the wild. The agritourism, in addition, makes a very good honey.

Gli Ulivi is one of the few existing agritourism (farmhouses) in the Lower Salento. Giulio and Cesarina, thank also to the contribution made by G.A.L. Capo Santa Maria di Leuca, decided to start up the agritourism farm choosing to remain in Salento so as to continue the farm activity carried out by their parents. At the beginning of the nineties the G.A.L. Capo Santa Maria di Leuca had the merit to convince the inhabitants of the rural communities in Lower Salento to invest in agritourism activities. Nowadays Gli Ulivi is a farm duly certified by the controlling entity I.C.E.A.
